The story

The path descends slowly through cypress trees and deep green shade. Beyond the stone wall, fields stretch toward still blue water and mountains softened by distance. A few pale houses catch the afternoon light while the rest of the valley remains quiet. Nothing interrupts the view. It is the kind of landscape that seems to have been waiting there long before anyone arrived.
